A1V Devotional: Busy, Busy, Busy

(Repost from 5/28/2012)

"As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, "Lord, don't you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself ? Tell her to help me!"
"Martha, Martha," the Lord answered, "you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her." - Luke 10:38-42

We all know this story. I wonder if Christ had our time in mind when he taught this little lesson. Martha is so busy, and so caught up in preparation that she is completely overlooking the presence of Christ, right there in her home, in her life. With today's busy schedule, we can find it so hard to take the time to do the only thing Mary did: sit at His feet and listen. Today, let's make an effort to just sit in quiet peace with Him, and instead of telling Him all the things we need, just listen to what He has to give us. That's the only thing we really need anyway, right?
